Why convert an Excel spreadsheet to PDF?

When you share an Excel file, the recipient opens it with their own version of the software, their own fonts and page settings: columns spill off the page, the table breaks in unexpected places, and sometimes even the values you see in the cells change. A PDF locks the spreadsheet in place, so a quote, price list, budget, grade sheet or stock report looks the same on every device and can't be changed easily.

The Dönüştür.net Excel to PDF tool opens your file on our server with LibreOffice and exports every worksheet to PDF pages. Cell formatting, borders, fill colours, merged cells, charts and number formats are preserved, and the text stays selectable and searchable in the PDF. You don't need Microsoft Office on your computer.

Supported formats: Microsoft Excel (.xlsx and legacy .xls), OpenDocument Spreadsheet (.ods; LibreOffice Calc) and comma-, semicolon- or tab-separated text tables (.csv).

How to convert Excel to PDF in 3 steps

  1. Upload your spreadsheet: Drag your XLSX, XLS, ODS or CSV file into the area above or click to select it. Files can be up to 25 MB.

  2. Choose the page layout: “As in the file” uses the page breaks, orientation and scaling you set in Excel exactly as they are. “One page” fits each worksheet onto a single PDF page without splitting it, which is ideal for wide tables.

  3. Convert and download: Click “Convert to PDF”; it usually takes just a few seconds. Then save your PDF with “Download file”. The file keeps its name, so Budget 2026.xlsx becomes Budget 2026.pdf.

Conversion quality and limitations

  • All worksheets: All visible worksheets in the file are exported to the PDF in order. Hidden sheets are left out; if a sheet has a print area defined, only that area is used.

  • Page layout: With “As in the file”, the margins, portrait or landscape orientation, “fit to page” scaling, headers and footers and repeated title rows set in Excel are applied. If a wide table is split across several pages, try the “One page” option.

  • Formulas and charts: The PDF shows the cell values as they were when the file was last saved; charts and shapes are carried over. In CSV files, cells starting with “=” are not calculated, for security reasons, and stay as text.

  • Characters and numbers: Accented letters and special characters, including Turkish ç, ğ, ı, İ, ş, are exported correctly. For CSV files, UTF-8 and Windows-1254 encodings are detected automatically, as is the semicolon separator that Excel uses in many European locales.

  • Security: Macros in the file are never run, and external links and connected data sources are not refreshed; only the data inside the file is converted.

  • Password and size: Files with an opening password cannot be converted; remove the password in Excel, save the file and upload it again. Up to 25 MB per file; a conversion that does not finish within 2 minutes is stopped.

Privacy and automatic deletion

Your files are sent to our server over an encrypted HTTPS connection. The original file you upload is deleted as soon as processing finishes. The result file is kept only briefly so you can download it: an automatic clean-up job runs every minute and permanently deletes files older than 10 minutes. We therefore recommend downloading your result as soon as it is ready.

The download link only works for the user or browser session that started the job, and your files are never shared with other users. Our job log stores only details such as the file name, size and type of operation, never the file itself.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is converting Excel to PDF free?

Yes. The tool is free and works without an account. Guests have a 24-hour usage allowance per tool; a free account lets you convert more files.

Are all worksheets exported to the PDF?

Yes, all visible worksheets in the file are exported, in order, into a single PDF. If you only want one particular sheet, hide the others in Excel and save the file, or pull the pages you need out of the finished PDF with the Split PDF tool.

My wide table is split across several pages. What can I do?

Use the “One page” option: each worksheet is fitted onto a single PDF page without being split. Alternatively, set the page orientation to landscape in Excel, choose the “Fit All Columns on One Page” scaling and save the file again.

Can I convert a CSV file to PDF too?

Yes. CSV files separated by commas, semicolons, tabs or vertical bars are detected automatically and exported to PDF as a table. UTF-8 and Windows-1254 encodings are supported.

Can I convert without Microsoft Excel installed?

Yes. The conversion runs on our server, so you don't need Excel or any other office suite on your computer or phone. The tool also works in the browser on Android and iPhone.

Can I convert a password-protected Excel file?

No. Files with an opening password cannot be read. Remove the password in Excel under File → Info → Protect Workbook, save the file and try again. If you like, you can then encrypt the resulting PDF again with the Protect PDF tool.

Are my files stored?

No. Your uploaded file is deleted from the server as soon as the conversion finishes. The PDF is kept only so you can download it and is permanently deleted automatically within about 10 minutes.
