    What is WEBP, and why convert it to JPG?

    WEBP is an image format developed by Google and widely used on websites to make images load faster. That is why, when you save an image from a website, the file often downloads with a “.webp” extension. Although browsers display WEBP without any trouble, some photo viewers, older office programs, print services and form upload pages don't recognise the format.

    The WEBP to JPG tool converts your images in high quality to JPG, a format that opens almost everywhere. For a single image you get a JPG directly; for several images, one ZIP containing all the JPGs. You can convert product, news or social media images saved from any website in a few seconds, without installing any software.

    WEBP can also contain transparency and animation, neither of which JPG supports. So transparent areas are turned into a white background, and for animated WEBPs only the first frame becomes a JPG; the result screen points this out separately. You can upload up to 20 images and 25 MB in total at a time.

    How to convert WEBP to JPG in 4 steps

    Quality, transparency, animation and limitations

    • High quality: Images are saved at JPEG quality 90 without changing their resolution. Since lossy WEBPs are already compressed, the JPG version may be slightly larger; this is normal. You can use the converted JPGs in documents, presentations and print without resizing them.

    • Transparency turns white: JPG cannot contain transparent pixels; transparent and semi-transparent areas are flattened onto a white background, with no black or checkerboard background.

    • Animated WEBP: JPG is a single-frame format. For animated WEBPs, only the first frame is converted and the result screen points this out; the rest of the animation is not carried over to the JPG.

    • Metadata: EXIF and XMP information inside the WEBP is not copied into the JPG; a colour profile, if present, is kept.

    • Limitations: Up to 20 images and 25 MB in total per conversion. Images above 50 megapixels are rejected for security reasons.

    Privacy and automatic deletion

    Your files are sent to our server over an encrypted HTTPS connection. The original file you upload is deleted as soon as processing finishes. The result file is kept only briefly so you can download it: an automatic clean-up job runs every minute and permanently deletes files older than 10 minutes. We therefore recommend downloading your result as soon as it is ready.

    The download link only works for the user or browser session that started the job, and your files are never shared with other users. Our job log stores only details such as the file name, size and type of operation, never the file itself.

    What is a WEBP file?
