  2. Removing the data
  3. Preparing the file

01

What does a photo say about you?

Every photo you take with a phone carries an invisible data card (EXIF): the GPS coordinates of where it was taken, the date and time, the phone's make and model, sometimes the serial number of the lens. With location on, the address of your home, your office or your child's school travels with the photo, accurate to a few metres.

Some apps remove this data when you share, but photos sent by email, shared through a cloud link or uploaded to classifieds and forums often keep it. Editing programs add their own traces too; some files even keep a small preview of the picture as it was before cropping.

This tool shows what each photo carries as soon as you choose it, then removes those blocks from the file. The image data is not touched: the photo is not recompressed, so the quality stays exactly the same. The rotation flag is kept so the photo does not turn sideways, and the colour profile so the colours do not change. Everything happens in your browser.

02

Remove photo data in 3 steps

  1. Choose photos: Pick or drop JPG, PNG or WEBP photos (up to 50 files at once, 50 MB each). Which ones carry a location, a date or device data is listed right away.

  2. Clean: Press “Remove data”. The extra data blocks are removed; the image data is copied as it is.

  3. Download: A single photo downloads under the same name, several photos as one ZIP. The before/after table shows what was removed from each photo.

03

Who it helps

  • Sellers: Removing your home's location before uploading an item's photo to a classifieds site.

  • Parents: Sharing a child's photo in groups without showing where the school or home is.

  • Journalists and sources: Cleaning the traces that reveal the sender's device and whereabouts.

  • Travellers and creators: Posting photos without revealing where you are staying right now.

  • Companies: Removing employee names and device data from product and office photos before publishing.

  • Everyone: Making sure the photos you send by email or cloud link carry only the picture.

04

What is removed, what is kept

  • Removed: All of EXIF (GPS location, altitude, capture date, make, model, lens, serial number, owner and author names, software, the embedded small preview), XMP, IPTC and comments; in PNG the text and time chunks; in WEBP the EXIF and XMP chunks.

  • Kept: The image itself (byte for byte), the colour profile and the rotation flag. Without the rotation flag a photo taken upright could show sideways; it is a single number and says nothing about you.

  • Quality: The photo is not recompressed. The file gets slightly smaller because only the extra data goes; the pixels are the same.

  • Check: Every cleaned file is read again in your browser; the result table shows the status next to each removed field.

  • Not supported: HEIC/HEIF (the iPhone's default format) cannot be cleaned without re-encoding, so it is not accepted. On an iPhone you can turn location off under “Options” when sharing, or shoot JPG with Settings › Camera › Formats › Most Compatible.

  • Limits and privacy: Up to 50 photos at once, 50 MB each. Your photos are not uploaded or stored; everything is done in your browser. A sign, a face or a landmark in the picture itself can still reveal a place; the tool removes the file's extra data only.

Privacy and automatic deletion

This tool does not send your file to our server: all processing happens in your browser, on your device. The page is served with a security policy (Content-Security-Policy) that technically prevents the file's contents from being sent anywhere; no analytics or advertising scripts run on this page.

The result file is also created on your device and only you download it. It is cleared from the browser's memory when you close the tab or choose “New file”. Our server keeps no file name or content record of this processing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can someone really see where a photo was taken?

Yes. If location access is on for the camera, the latitude and longitude are written into the photo. Anyone who gets the file can read the coordinates with a simple program and open them on a map. The tool shows whether a photo has a location, and its value, as soon as you choose it.

Don't messaging and social apps remove it anyway?

Most of them remove the location and other data when you share. But email attachments, cloud links, sending as a “document” in a chat, classifieds and forums often pass the file on as it is. The sure way is to clean a photo before you send it.

Does removing the data reduce the photo's quality?

No. The tool does not recompress the photo; the image data is copied byte for byte and only the extra data blocks are removed. The pixels stay exactly the same; the file just gets a little smaller.

Why did my photo not turn sideways after cleaning?

A phone often saves an upright photo sideways and adds a rotation flag that says “turn this”. The tool keeps this one flag on purpose; without it the photo would show sideways. It reveals nothing about you, your place or your device.

Why are HEIC photos from an iPhone not accepted?

The HEIC structure does not let us remove this data safely without re-encoding the image, so instead of doing half a job we say so. On an iPhone you can turn location off under “Options” when sharing, or shoot JPG with Settings › Camera › Formats › Most Compatible and bring it here.

Can I clean several photos at once?

Yes, up to 50 photos at a time. They are all cleaned and download as one ZIP; you can also download each one separately.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. The photos are read and cleaned in your browser; the page comes with a security policy that technically blocks connections to the outside. No photo or data ever reaches us.
