Why convert audio files to MP3?
The iPhone Voice Memos app saves recordings as M4A, WhatsApp voice messages are OPUS or OGG files, and music archives are often stored as FLAC. All of these formats offer good sound quality, but they don't open everywhere: some cars, older music players, smart TVs, official application portals and editing programs accept only MP3.
This tool converts the audio file you upload to a high-quality MP3 (about 190 kbps, variable bitrate). Tags such as song title, artist and album are kept, so your MP3 shows up with the right name in your music player.

How to convert an audio file to MP3 in 3 steps

Quality, tags and limitations
High quality: The MP3 is encoded with a variable bitrate of about 190 kbps. When converting from an already compressed source such as M4A, OGG or OPUS, the quality can't exceed the source, but the difference is usually inaudible.
Tags kept: Information such as song title, artist and album is copied into the MP3. Album cover art is not.
Compatibility: Sample rates above 48 kHz are reduced to 48 kHz and more than two channels are mixed down to stereo, so the MP3 plays on any device.
Limitations: One file at a time, up to 95 MB and 3 hours. For files that are already MP3s, use the Compress Audio tool.

Privacy and automatic deletion
Your files are sent to our server over an encrypted HTTPS connection. The original file you upload is deleted as soon as processing finishes. The result file is kept only briefly so you can download it: an automatic clean-up job runs every minute and permanently deletes files older than 10 minutes. We therefore recommend downloading your result as soon as it is ready.
The download link only works for the user or browser session that started the job, and your files are never shared with other users. Our job log stores only details such as the file name, size and type of operation, never the file itself.

Is converting M4A to MP3 free?
Yes. The tool is free and works without an account. Guests have a 24-hour usage allowance per tool; a free account lets you convert more files.
Can I convert a WhatsApp voice message to MP3?
Yes. When you save a voice message from your phone using share or export, you get an .opus or .ogg file; upload that file here to convert it to MP3.
Which formats are supported?
M4A, AAC, OGG, OPUS, FLAC, WMA, WAV, AMR, AIFF and CAF files can be converted to MP3. For the audio in videos, use the MP4 to MP3 tool.
Does converting to MP3 reduce quality?
The MP3 is encoded at about 190 kbps, and the difference is usually inaudible. Converting from a lossless source such as FLAC loses a very small amount of quality; converting from a compressed source such as M4A or OGG can't produce better quality than the source.
Are the song title and artist kept?
Yes. Tags such as song title, artist and album are copied into the MP3. Album cover art is not.
Can I convert several files at once?
Right now, one file is converted at a time. To convert more files, choose a new file on the same page once the conversion is finished.
Are my files stored?
No. The file you upload is deleted from the server as soon as the conversion is finished. The MP3 is kept only so you can download it and is deleted automatically within about 10 minutes.
