Why convert a Word document to PDF?

A Word document can look different depending on the fonts, Office version and page settings of the computer that opens it: lines shift, tables spill over the page and special characters may break. A PDF freezes the document exactly as it is, so it opens and prints with the same layout on phones, tablets, Windows and Mac. That is why CVs, letters, quotes, invoices and assignments are usually sent as PDF.

The Dönüştür.net Word to PDF tool processes your document on our server with LibreOffice and creates a standard PDF that keeps the page structure, headings, tables, images, headers and footers, page numbers and links. You do not need Microsoft Office on your computer; start the conversion in your browser and download the result a few seconds later.

How to convert Word to PDF in 3 steps

When is it useful?

  • Turning a CV into a PDF: Sending your résumé as PDF keeps the layout and fonts intact on the recruiter's screen, and most job portals and applicant tracking systems ask for PDF anyway.

  • Letters and official forms: Preparing an application or formal letter that cannot be edited easily before emailing it or uploading it to a government, university or city portal.

  • Assignments and theses: Producing the PDF your lecturer or submission system requires, with page numbers, table of contents and bibliography intact.

  • Quotes, contracts and invoices: Preventing accidental edits and giving clients a professional-looking document.

  • Printing: Avoiding shifted pages and missing fonts when printing at a copy shop or on someone else's computer.

  • Archiving: Keeping old .doc files in a format that will open the same way years from now.

Conversion quality and limitations

  • Layout is preserved: Margins, page orientation, headings, bullet lists, tables, images, headers/footers and page numbers are carried over to the PDF. Text stays selectable and searchable.

  • Fonts: If a font used in the document is not available on the server, a font with similar metrics is used instead. Custom or commercial fonts may cause slightly different line breaks, so check important documents before sending them.

  • International characters: Accented letters and non-Latin scripts are exported correctly. For TXT files, UTF-8 and Windows code pages are detected automatically.

  • Security: Macros in the document are never run and linked images from the internet are not downloaded; only content embedded in the document is converted.

  • Comments and tracked changes: The PDF reflects how the document is displayed. We recommend accepting changes and deleting unnecessary comments in Word before converting.

  • Password-protected documents: Documents with an opening password cannot be converted. Remove the password in Word (File → Info → Protect Document), save the file and upload it again.

  • Size and time: Up to 25 MB per file. Very large, image-heavy documents take longer; a conversion that does not finish within 2 minutes is stopped.

Privacy and automatic deletion

Your files are sent to our server over an encrypted HTTPS connection. The original file you upload is deleted as soon as processing finishes. The result file is kept only briefly so you can download it: an automatic clean-up job runs every minute and permanently deletes files older than 10 minutes. We therefore recommend downloading your result as soon as it is ready.

The download link only works for the user or browser session that started the job, and your files are never shared with other users. Our job log stores only details such as the file name, size and type of operation, never the file itself.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is converting Word to PDF free?

Yes. The tool is free and works without an account. Guests have a 24-hour usage allowance per tool; a free account lets you convert more files.

Which file types can I convert to PDF?

Microsoft Word documents (.docx and .doc), OpenDocument text documents (.odt), RTF files (.rtf) and plain text files (.txt) are supported. Excel and PowerPoint files are not converted by this tool.

Can I convert Word to PDF without Microsoft Office?

Yes. The conversion runs on our server, so you do not need Word or any other office suite on your computer or phone.

Will the layout of my document change?

Page layout, tables, images and special characters are preserved. Custom fonts that are not available on the server are replaced with a similar font, which can cause minor differences in line breaks.

Can I convert a Word file to PDF on my phone?

Yes. The tool runs in the browser on Android and iPhone. You can upload a document straight from the Files app or from an email attachment.

Can I convert a password-protected Word document?

No. Documents with an opening password cannot be read. Remove the password in Word, save the document again and retry.

What is the maximum file size?

You can upload documents of up to 25 MB. The resulting PDF is usually about the same size as the Word file; if you need a smaller file, use the Compress PDF tool afterwards.

Are my documents stored?

No. Your uploaded document is deleted from the server as soon as the conversion finishes. The PDF is kept only so you can download it and is permanently deleted automatically within about 10 minutes.
