Why put several pages on one sheet?

Printing lecture notes, slide handouts, a long report or a stack of practice papers one page per sheet eats through paper and toner. Putting two pages side by side, or four in a 2 × 2 grid, cuts the printout to a half or even a quarter.

This tool gathers the pages of your PDF into a new PDF. With “2 per sheet”, portrait pages sit side by side on a landscape A4 sheet, while landscape pages (like slides) sit one above the other on a portrait sheet; with “4 per sheet”, four pages are laid out 2 × 2. Each page is scaled to fit its cell without distortion and centred.

Pages aren't turned into images: text and graphics stay vector, so the text remains selectable and searchable. Booklet layout and page resizing are available on the same page, too.

How to put multiple PDF pages on one sheet in 3 steps

  1. Upload your PDF: Drag your file into the area above or click to select it (up to 25 MB and 500 pages).

  2. Choose a layout: Pick “2 per sheet” or “4 per sheet”, then set the paper size, order, margin and, if you like, a thin border. The diagram shows how the pages will be laid out on the sheet.

  3. Download: Click “Create PDF”; the new PDF is downloaded and ready to print.

03

When is it useful?

  • Lecture notes and slide handouts: Printing slides 2 or 4 to a sheet so handouts for students or meetings take up less paper.

  • Print and copy shops: Quickly setting up a customer's PDF as “2 pages per sheet”.

  • Worksheets and practice tests: Printing two A5 (or half-letter) worksheets on one sheet and cutting it down the middle.

  • Reviewing long documents: Printing a whole report or contract on fewer sheets so you can take it in at a glance on your desk.

  • Archive and backup copies: Keeping paper copies of rarely read documents while saving sheets and folder space.

Options, quality and limits

  • Layout: With “2 per sheet”, portrait pages go side by side on landscape paper, and documents that are mostly landscape go one above the other on portrait paper. With “4 per sheet”, pages sit in a 2 × 2 grid. You can choose A4, A3 or Letter paper.

  • Order and margin: Pages run left to right or top to bottom. The margin can be none, narrow (5 mm) or wide (12 mm); a thin border keeps the pages visually apart.

  • Quality: Pages aren't redrawn, just scaled down and placed; text stays sharp and selectable. In the 2-up layout, text shrinks to about 70% of its size, and in the 4-up layout to about 47%: 12 pt text becomes roughly 5.5 pt in 4-up.

  • What changes: Links are no longer clickable; filled-in form fields and comments are flattened onto the page and can't be edited any more. Bookmarks and interactive features aren't carried over to the new PDF.

  • Limits: Up to 25 MB and 500 pages per file. For encrypted PDFs, use the Unlock PDF tool first.

Privacy and automatic deletion

Your files are sent to our server over an encrypted HTTPS connection. The original file you upload is deleted as soon as processing finishes. The result file is kept only briefly so you can download it: an automatic clean-up job runs every minute and permanently deletes files older than 10 minutes. We therefore recommend downloading your result as soon as it is ready.

The download link only works for the user or browser session that started the job, and your files are never shared with other users. Our job log stores only details such as the file name, size and type of operation, never the file itself.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I put 2 PDF pages on one page?

Upload your PDF, choose “2 per sheet” and click “Create PDF”. The two pages sit side by side on a single A4 sheet with their proportions kept, and you can print the new PDF straight away.

Is the text still readable with 4 pages on one sheet?

In the 4-up layout, pages shrink to roughly half their width and height; 12 pt text prints at around 5.5 pt. Slides and notes in a large font are easy to read, but small footnotes can get hard to make out. If you're not sure, try the 2-up layout or set the margin to “None”.

Can I change the order of the pages?

Yes. Pages can run left to right (1 2 / 3 4) or top to bottom (1 3 / 2 4). If you want to put the pages in a different order to begin with, use the Organise PDF tool first.

Does the text stay selectable?

Yes. Pages aren't turned into images; they're scaled down and placed as they are. Text and graphics stay vector, so you can select, copy and search the text in the new PDF.

How are landscape pages and slides arranged?

If most of the document is landscape pages, “2 per sheet” puts two pages one above the other on portrait A4, and “4 per sheet” lays them out 2 × 2 on landscape A4. Rotated pages are placed the way they appear on screen.

What happens to links and form fields?

Links stay visible in the new PDF but can't be clicked. Filled-in form fields and comments are flattened onto the page: you can still see them, but you can't edit them any more. The result screen tells you how many links were affected.

Are my files stored?

No. Your uploaded PDF is deleted from the server as soon as processing finishes. The new PDF is kept only so you can download it and is deleted automatically within about 10 minutes.
