    What is HEIC, and why convert it to JPG?

    HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the default format iPhones and iPads have used to save photos since iOS 11. It delivers the same image quality as JPG in roughly half the space, which makes it very efficient for your phone's storage. The problem is that HEIC doesn't open everywhere: Windows PCs may not display these files without an extra extension, and many application systems, government portals, school portals and online shop dashboards accept only JPG or PNG.

    The HEIC to JPG tool uploads your photos from the browser and converts them to the universal JPG format in a few seconds. If you upload a single photo, you get it back directly as a JPG; if you upload several, they all download in one ZIP file. The orientation stored by your phone is applied, so your JPG won't come out sideways.

    To protect your privacy, the EXIF information inside the photo (GPS location, phone model, capture date) is not copied into the JPG. If the photo has a colour profile, it is kept, so photos taken with the iPhone's wide colour gamut don't look washed out. You can upload up to 20 photos and 25 MB in total at a time.

    How to convert HEIC photos to JPG in 4 steps

    1. Select your photos: Drag your HEIC or HEIF files into the area above or click to select them. Photos transferred from an iPhone to a computer usually have names like “IMG_1234.HEIC”.

    2. Check the list: The photos you add appear in the list. Remove any you don't want with ✕ and add more with the “Add images” button; the order inside the ZIP matches the order of the list.

    3. Convert: Click “Convert to JPG”. The photos are converted one after another in high quality (JPEG quality 90), and you can follow the progress live.

    4. Download: For a single photo you get a JPG file; for several photos, one ZIP containing all the JPGs. Files are deleted from the server after about 10 minutes.

    When is it useful?

    • Photos that won't open on Windows: Converting HEIC files transferred from an iPhone by cable or via the cloud into JPGs that open on any computer, without installing extra software.

    • Applications and official forms: Uploading passport-style, ID or document photos to systems that accept only JPG, such as government portals, university applications, visa and job application forms.

    • Websites and online shops: Uploading product photos to site dashboards, marketplaces and classified ad sites that don't support HEIC.

    • Sharing and printing: Sending photos to family members with older phones, or submitting them to photo printing services in a suitable format.

    • Hiding your location: Removing the GPS location from a photo taken at home before you share it; the converted JPG does not contain this information.

    • Batch archiving: Converting holiday or event photos to JPG in batches of 20 and keeping each batch as a single ZIP.

    Quality, privacy and limitations

    • High quality: Photos are saved at JPEG quality 90, which means no visible loss and a reasonable file size. The resolution does not change: a 12-megapixel photo becomes a 12-megapixel JPG.

    • File size: Because HEIC compresses so efficiently, the JPG version of the same photo is usually 1.5–2 times larger. This is normal and does not mean any quality has been lost.

    • Orientation and colour: The orientation stored by the phone is applied, so the photo opens the right way up. If the photo has a colour profile (usually Display P3 on iPhones), it is embedded in the JPG and the colours don't fade.

    • Metadata removed: GPS location, device model, capture date and similar EXIF/XMP information are not copied into the JPG. The video part of a Live Photo and the depth map are not converted; only the main photo becomes a JPG.

    • Limitations: Up to 20 photos and 25 MB in total per conversion. Images above 50 megapixels are rejected for security reasons; the iPhone's 48-megapixel photos are within this limit.

    Privacy and automatic deletion

    Your files are sent to our server over an encrypted HTTPS connection. The original file you upload is deleted as soon as processing finishes. The result file is kept only briefly so you can download it: an automatic clean-up job runs every minute and permanently deletes files older than 10 minutes. We therefore recommend downloading your result as soon as it is ready.

    The download link only works for the user or browser session that started the job, and your files are never shared with other users. Our job log stores only details such as the file name, size and type of operation, never the file itself.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    What is a HEIC file?

    HEIC is the high-efficiency image format iPhones and iPads use to save photos (HEIF standard, HEVC compression). It stores a photo of the same quality as a JPG at roughly half the size, but it is not supported by every device, program and website.

    Why are my iPhone photos saved as HEIC?

    Since iOS 11, iPhones save photos in HEIC format by default to save space. If you select “Most Compatible” under Settings → Camera → Formats, new photos are saved as JPG; your existing HEIC photos can be converted to JPG with this tool.

    Why are my photos HEIC when I transfer them from my iPhone to a computer?

    It depends on the transfer setting. On your iPhone, if “Automatic” is selected under Settings → Photos → “Transfer to Mac or PC”, photos are usually converted to a compatible format during the transfer; if “Keep Originals” is selected, they arrive as HEIC. You can upload any HEIC files here to turn them into JPGs.

    Can I convert several HEIC photos at once?

    Yes. You can upload up to 20 photos at a time (25 MB in total). For a single photo you get a JPG file; for several photos, one ZIP file containing all the JPGs.

    Does converting to JPG reduce photo quality?

    There is no noticeable loss. The photo is saved at the same resolution and in high quality (JPEG quality 90). The JPG file may be larger than the HEIC; this is because JPG uses an older, less efficient compression method.

    Is the location data in my photos kept in the JPG?

    No. EXIF information such as GPS location, device model and capture date is not copied into the JPG, so sharing the photo doesn't reveal where you took it.

    Are Live Photos converted too?

    The still part of a Live Photo is a HEIC file and is converted to JPG. The moving part is a separate video (MOV) file, so it is not converted.

    Are my uploaded photos stored?

    No. Your photos are deleted from the server as soon as the conversion is finished. The JPG or ZIP file is kept only so you can download it and is deleted automatically within about 10 minutes. The transfer is encrypted with HTTPS.
