Why extract text from a PDF?

Copying text out of some PDFs is a pain: lines get jumbled, page numbers and headers get in the way, words are broken by hyphens. When you want to paste the text into an AI tool, a translator or your own software, the cleanest way is to get it as plain text (TXT) without any formatting.

The PDF to text tool reads the document page by page and writes it into a UTF-8 encoded TXT file, marking each page with a separator such as “=== Page 1 ===”. Thanks to UTF-8, accented letters and non-Latin characters come through intact.

02

How to convert PDF to text in 3 steps

  1. Upload your PDF: Drag the file onto the box above or click to choose it (up to 25 MB).

  2. Extract the text: Click “Convert to text”; the tool reads the text on every page in order.

  3. Download the TXT file: Open it in Notepad, TextEdit, VS Code or any text editor.

03

When is it useful?

  • AI and translation tools: Paste clean text to summarise or translate a long report.

  • Quotes and research: Quote articles and books without fighting line breaks and hyphenation.

  • Data processing: Search, count and analyse the text with Python, Excel or other software.

  • Accessibility: Use the text with screen readers or text-to-speech apps.

04

How extraction works and its limits

  • Fast and exact for text-based PDFs: In PDFs produced by Word and similar programs the text is read directly from the file, so there are no recognition errors.

  • No formatting: TXT is plain text – bold and italics, fonts, images and table lines are not included. Table values come through as lines.

  • Multi-column pages: On newspaper- or magazine-style pages the reading order of the columns may occasionally differ from what you expect.

  • Scanned documents: If no selectable text is found at all, the tool tries to read the pages with Turkish and English OCR. For scanned documents we recommend the PDF OCR tool.

  • Size limit: Up to 25 MB per file.

Privacy and automatic deletion

Your files are sent to our server over an encrypted HTTPS connection. The original file you upload is deleted as soon as processing finishes. The result file is kept only briefly so you can download it: an automatic clean-up job runs every minute and permanently deletes files older than 10 minutes. We therefore recommend downloading your result as soon as it is ready.

The download link only works for the user or browser session that started the job, and your files are never shared with other users. Our job log stores only details such as the file name, size and type of operation, never the file itself.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will special characters be garbled?

No. The text is saved as UTF-8, so accented and non-Latin characters are preserved. If an old editor shows them incorrectly, open the file with the UTF-8 option.

Can I get text from scanned PDFs?

If the document has no selectable text at all, the tool tries OCR. For the best results with scanned documents, use the PDF OCR tool.

Are page breaks kept?

Yes. Each page’s text is separated by a header such as “=== Page 1 ===”, so you can easily see which page the text came from.

What happens to tables and images?

Images are not included in the TXT file. Table text is written line by line; to keep the table structure, use the PDF to Excel tool.

Which program opens TXT files?

Notepad on Windows, TextEdit on macOS or any code editor. File managers on phones can display TXT files as well.

Do you keep my files?

No. The original PDF is deleted when processing finishes and the TXT file is removed from the server automatically within a few minutes.
