    Why use WEBP?

    WEBP is a modern image format designed for the web. At the same visual quality, it usually produces files 25–35 percent smaller than JPG, and like PNG it also supports transparency. All current browsers (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge) display WEBP, which is why it has increasingly become the standard for website, blog and online shop images.

    The JPG/PNG to WEBP tool converts your images to WEBP at the quality level you choose. Smaller images make your pages load faster, which improves both the visitor experience and the page speed that search engines take into account.

    Transparent areas in PNG images are kept in the WEBP, so your logos and icons are converted together with their transparent backgrounds. For a single image you get a WEBP directly; for several images, one ZIP containing all the WEBPs. You can upload up to 20 images and 25 MB in total at a time.

    How to convert images to WEBP in 4 steps

    1. Select your images: Drag your JPG, JPEG or PNG files into the area above or click to select them.

    2. Choose the quality: Pick one of the levels: High (90), Balanced (80) or Small (65). For most websites, Balanced gives the best result.

    3. Convert: Click “Convert to WEBP”. The images are converted to WEBP at the same resolution and at the quality you chose.

    Quality levels, transparency and limitations

    • Three quality levels: High (quality 90) offers no visible loss, Balanced (quality 80) the ideal balance for the web, and Small (quality 65) the smallest file with slight loss in fine detail. The resolution stays the same at every level.

    • How much smaller? For photos, WEBP is usually 25–35 percent smaller than a JPG that looks the same; for PNGs containing photos, the difference can be much larger. For small JPGs that are already heavily compressed, the gain may be limited.

    • Transparency kept: Transparent and semi-transparent areas in PNGs stay exactly as they are in the WEBP. Images without transparent areas are saved without an unnecessary transparency channel.

    • Compatibility: All current browsers display WEBP. Some older desktop programs and email clients may not support it; if needed, you can convert back with the WEBP to JPG tool.

    • Metadata and limitations: EXIF information (GPS location, device model) is not copied into the WEBP, and the orientation stored by the phone is applied. WEBP supports a maximum width and height of 16,383 pixels; larger images are rejected. Up to 20 images and 25 MB in total per conversion.

    Privacy and automatic deletion

    Your files are sent to our server over an encrypted HTTPS connection. The original file you upload is deleted as soon as processing finishes. The result file is kept only briefly so you can download it: an automatic clean-up job runs every minute and permanently deletes files older than 10 minutes. We therefore recommend downloading your result as soon as it is ready.

    The download link only works for the user or browser session that started the job, and your files are never shared with other users. Our job log stores only details such as the file name, size and type of operation, never the file itself.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Is converting JPG to WEBP free?

    Yes. The tool is free and works without an account. Guests have a 24-hour usage allowance per tool; a free account lets you convert more files.

    Which quality level should I choose?

    For most websites, Balanced (80) gives the best result. You can choose High (90) for photos and product images where detail matters, and Small (65) for small previews and background images.

    Is the transparent background of a PNG kept?

    Yes. Because WEBP supports transparency, transparent areas in the PNG stay transparent in the WEBP.

    Does WEBP open everywhere?

    All current browsers such as Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge, as well as Android and iOS, open WEBP. Some older desktop programs and email clients may not support it; in that case, you can use the WEBP to JPG tool.

    Why is the WEBP file sometimes not smaller?

    If the image is a small JPG that has already been compressed at low quality, WEBP may gain little. In such cases, you can try the Small level or leave the image as JPG.

    Can I convert several images at once?

    Yes. You can upload up to 20 JPG or PNG images at a time (25 MB in total); the quality you choose is applied to all of them and the WEBPs download as one ZIP file.

    Can I convert HEIC photos from my iPhone to WEBP?

    Not directly. First convert your photos to JPG with the HEIC to JPG tool, then convert them to WEBP with this tool.

    Are my uploaded images stored?

    No. Your images are deleted from the server as soon as the conversion is finished. The WEBP or ZIP file is kept only so you can download it and is deleted automatically within about 10 minutes.
