Why can't you edit a locked spreadsheet?
In a spreadsheet locked with “Protect Sheet” or “Protect Workbook” in Excel, you can't change cells or add and delete sheets; in Word, if “Restrict Editing” is on, the document opens read-only. If the protection password has been forgotten, or you can't reach the person who made the file, you end up unable to work on your own file.
These protections are settings inside the file; they don't encrypt it. The tool removes only those settings: sheet protection, workbook structure protection, the “Read-only recommended” and “Password to modify” settings, and Word's editing restriction and write protection. Everything else in the file (data, formulas, formatting, charts, images) stays exactly as it is.
A file encrypted with an opening password (if Excel or Word asks for a password when opening it) can't be opened with this tool: we don't crack the encryption and we don't guess passwords. If you upload such a file, the tool tells you so and doesn't process it.

How to remove protection in 3 steps
Choose your file: Drop your protected .xlsx or .docx file into the area above (up to 25 MB).
Click “Remove protection”: The tool finds the protection settings in the file and removes only those.
Download: The result screen shows which protections were removed; the file opens unlocked in Excel or Word.
03
When is it useful?
Your own spreadsheet with a forgotten password: Editing a budget or stock sheet you protected years ago.
Templates you're authorised to change: Updating the locked sheets of an internal company template.
Read-only Word documents: Changing your own report that has an editing restriction.
Before converting to PDF: Editing a locked spreadsheet and then exporting it from Excel to PDF.
04
What it does and doesn't do
Only .xlsx and .docx: First open old .xls and .doc files in Excel or Word and use “Save As” to save them as .xlsx / .docx.
Encrypted files aren't opened: Files encrypted with an opening password are not decrypted and no passwords are guessed; the tool tells you clearly when this is the case.
Right to use: Use the tool only on files you own or have the right to edit. Removing the protection from someone else's file without permission may breach a contract or the law.
Privacy: The uploaded file is deleted from the server as soon as processing ends, and the resulting copy after about 10 minutes.
05
Privacy and automatic deletion
Your files are sent to our server over an encrypted HTTPS connection. The original file you upload is deleted as soon as processing finishes. The result file is kept only briefly so you can download it: an automatic clean-up job runs every minute and permanently deletes files older than 10 minutes. We therefore recommend downloading your result as soon as it is ready.
The download link only works for the user or browser session that started the job, and your files are never shared with other users. Our job log stores only details such as the file name, size and type of operation, never the file itself.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I remove Excel sheet protection without the password?
Yes. Sheet and workbook protection don't encrypt the file; the tool removes that protection from the file, so no password is needed. Use it only on your own files or files you have the right to edit.
Will it open an Excel file that asks for a password when opening?
No. An opening password encrypts the file; this tool doesn't decrypt files or guess passwords. If you know the password, open the file in Excel and remove the encryption yourself under File > Info > Protect Workbook > Encrypt with Password.
Is Word's editing restriction removed too?
Yes. Editing and formatting restrictions set with “Restrict Editing” are removed, as is the “Read-only recommended” setting; the document opens normally in Word.
Will my data and formulas change?
No. Only the protection setting is removed; cells, formulas, formatting, charts and images stay exactly as they are.
Is it free?
Yes. Guests can use this tool 20 times in 24 hours; no account is needed.
