  3. Preparing the file

This tool only places the front and back of an ID card on one page; it does not let you change the details on the card, and a copy is not a substitute for an official document.

01

Why should you hand over a watermarked ID copy?

Banks, employers, landlords and service providers may ask you for a copy of your ID card. Once a copy is handed over, you cannot know where it is stored or whose hands it passes through, so it is important to limit the copy to the purpose it was given for.

Proportionality is a core principle of personal data protection: only the information needed for the purpose should be shared. A watermark saying “Given only for …” on the copy, and masking fields that are not needed (such as the ID number), make it harder to use the copy for anything else.

Dönüştür.net's ID card copy tool processes the photos of the front and back in your browser: you frame the card, write your purpose, and the tool places both sides at true size (85.6 × 54 mm) on a single A4 page. Your photos are not sent to our server, and no advertising or analytics scripts run on this page.

02

Prepare an ID card copy in 3 steps

  1. Choose the photos: Choose a photo of the front of your ID card and, if you like, of the back. JPG, PNG and WEBP are accepted; the photos are opened on your device.

  2. Frame the card and write the purpose: Drag the corners to frame the card and rotate it if needed. For the watermark, write what the copy is for; if it isn't needed, add a masking box over the ID number.

  3. Download and print the PDF: Press “Prepare PDF” and download the A4 PDF. Print at 100% scale (actual size); the card comes out on paper at its real size.

03

When is it used?

  • Bank and loan applications: Writing the bank's name and the date on the copy requested for opening an account or applying for a loan.

  • Employment paperwork: Adding a copy to your personnel file that states it was given only for this job.

  • Renting and property deals: Limiting the copy given to a landlord or estate agent to the tenancy agreement.

  • Utilities and phone lines: Handing over a watermarked copy for electricity, water, gas or mobile line applications.

  • School and course registrations: Sending the ID copy requested at registration as a tidy one-page PDF.

  • Sending by e-mail: Sharing a watermarked and masked PDF instead of sending plain photos of your ID card.

Print size and security

  • What the tool does: This tool only places the front and back of your ID card on one page. It does not let you change the details on the card, and a copy is not a substitute for an official document. Only use your own ID card or one whose owner has given you permission.

  • Watermark and masking: To make misuse of your ID harder, we recommend keeping the watermark on and masking your ID number if it isn't needed. The watermark and masking boxes are burned into the image and cannot be removed from the PDF afterwards.

  • True size: ID cards use the ID-1 size: 85.6 × 54 mm. The tool places each side on the page at exactly this size at 300 dpi, with a 20 mm gap between the two sides.

  • Printing: When printing, choose actual size (100%) instead of “Fit to page”. If the card comes out at a different size, check that scaling is turned off in your printer settings.

  • A good photo: Lay the card on a flat, dark surface, light it from the side to avoid glare and fill as much of the frame with the card as you can. Text may not be readable in very small or blurry photos.

  • Privacy: Your photos and the resulting PDF exist only on your device. They are cleared from the browser's memory when you close the tab; no file is sent to our server.

05

Privacy and automatic deletion

This tool does not send your file to our server: all processing happens in your browser, on your device. The page is served with a security policy (Content-Security-Policy) that technically prevents the file's contents from being sent anywhere; no analytics or advertising scripts run on this page.

The result file is also created on your device and only you download it. It is cleared from the browser's memory when you close the tab or choose “New file”. Our server keeps no file name or content record of this processing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is a watermark needed?

The watermark writes on the copy what it was given for and on which date. If someone tries to use the copy elsewhere for another purpose, the text makes that noticeable. You can turn the watermark off, but a copy without a watermark is easier to misuse.

What should I write in the watermark?

Briefly write to whom and for what you are giving the copy, for example “account opening at X Bank” or “tenancy agreement with Y Estates”. The tool adds it to the sentence “Given only for …” with today's date and writes it diagonally across the card.

Should I mask my ID number?

If the process does not need your number, we recommend masking it. Place the masking box over part or all of the number. If the number is needed, you can remove the box and keep the watermark on; you can ask the organisation requesting the copy.

Can I use it with the old identity booklet?

Yes, you can also place a photo of the old-style identity booklet. Old booklets contain fields such as religion and blood group; if this information is not needed for the process, we recommend covering it with a masking box. The frame uses the ID card ratio; if needed, frame the relevant part of the booklet.

How do I take a good photo with my phone?

Lay the card on a flat, dark surface and hold the phone directly above it. Turn off the flash, light the card from the side to avoid glare and let the card fill the frame. If the photo is too small, the tool warns you.

Why doesn't the card print at its real size?

The card in the PDF is exactly 85.6 × 54 mm. If it comes out differently on paper, “Fit to page” or “Shrink” may be selected in the print dialog; set scaling to 100% (actual size) and print again.

Are my ID photos uploaded anywhere?

No. The photos are processed in your browser and are not sent to our server; the page is served with a security policy that technically prevents this. No advertising or analytics scripts run on this page, and everything is cleared when you close the tab.
