What is an ODT file, and why convert it to PDF?
ODT (OpenDocument Text) is the default document format of LibreOffice and OpenOffice. On school and government-office computers running Pardus (Turkey's national Linux distribution) and on the interactive whiteboards in Turkish classrooms (Pardus ETAP), documents are usually saved as .odt; Google Docs also exports documents as ODT via “File → Download → OpenDocument Format (.odt)”. If the recipient uses Microsoft Word, the same document may open with a different font and shifted tables, and phones often have no app installed that can open ODT at all.
A PDF removes this problem: the document is locked in the layout it was created with and looks the same on every device. Dönüştür.net opens your ODT document on our server with LibreOffice, so it is most likely exported to PDF by the very same engine as the program it was created in. Headings, tables, images, headers and footers, page numbers and the table of contents are preserved.
This page is tailored to ODT, but the same converter also accepts Word (DOCX, DOC), RTF and TXT documents. You can upload up to 25 MB per document.
02
How to convert ODT to PDF in 3 steps
Choose your ODT document: Drag your .odt file into the area above or click to select it. On Pardus, documents are usually in the “Documents” folder; files downloaded from Google Docs end up in “Downloads”.
Convert to PDF: Click “Convert to PDF”. The document is opened on the server with LibreOffice and exported to PDF page by page; most documents are ready within seconds.
Download and check: Download the PDF and open it once before sending it. The file name is kept: Parents meeting.odt downloads as Parents meeting.pdf.
03
When is converting ODT to PDF useful?
School paperwork: Sending minutes, department meeting decisions, letters to parents or exam papers prepared on a Pardus school computer to a school administration that uses Word, to parents or to another institution without the layout falling apart.
Public-sector documents: Passing on a document written at a municipality or public office that uses LibreOffice as a PDF, whether as an email attachment or for upload to an application portal.
Files from Google Docs: Turning an assignment, report or CV downloaded as ODT into the PDF format you've been asked for.
Linux and LibreOffice users: Getting a PDF quickly from your phone or another computer, without opening an office suite.
Printing: Making sure the ODT doesn't open differently and shift pages when you print at a copy shop or on a computer with Word installed.
04
Fonts, layout and limits
Same engine, same layout: ODT is LibreOffice's native format. Because our server also uses LibreOffice, margins, page orientation, styles, tables, bullet lists, footnotes, headers/footers and page numbers carry over to the PDF exactly as they are. Text stays selectable and searchable in the PDF.
Fonts: If a font used in the document isn't available on the server, a font with similar metrics is used instead. Times New Roman, Arial and Courier New, which are common in official correspondence, are replaced with the metric-compatible Liberation fonts, and Calibri and Cambria with Carlito and Caladea, so line breaks are usually preserved. With handwriting-style, decorative or custom fonts, lines may shift.
If you used a custom font: In LibreOffice, go to “File → Properties”, tick the option to embed fonts in the document on the “Font” tab and save the document again. The font is then stored inside the file and can be used during conversion as well, so the result usually improves.
Turkish characters: ODT stores text as Unicode, so the letters ç, ğ, ı, İ, ö, ş and ü carry over without any code-page issues.
Tracked changes and comments: The PDF reflects how the document is displayed on screen. We recommend accepting changes and deleting unnecessary comments before sending it.
Password-protected documents: ODT files saved with a password cannot be opened; the tool detects this during upload and tells you. Save the document without a password and try again.
Security and size: Macros in the document are never run and linked content is not fetched from the internet. Up to 25 MB per document; a conversion that does not finish within 2 minutes is stopped.
05
Privacy and automatic deletion
Your files are sent to our server over an encrypted HTTPS connection. The original file you upload is deleted as soon as processing finishes. The result file is kept only briefly so you can download it: an automatic clean-up job runs every minute and permanently deletes files older than 10 minutes. We therefore recommend downloading your result as soon as it is ready.
The download link only works for the user or browser session that started the job, and your files are never shared with other users. Our job log stores only details such as the file name, size and type of operation, never the file itself.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I open an ODT file?
ODT is the document format of LibreOffice and OpenOffice; it opens in those programs and in recent versions of Microsoft Word. If you don't have a program that can open it, or you're sending the document to someone else, the easiest option is to convert it to PDF: a PDF opens on any phone or computer.
Why does my document from Pardus look broken in Word?
Word opens an ODT file by converting it to its own format. Pardus fonts that aren't available on Windows, and the two programs calculating page layout differently, make lines, tables and page breaks shift. When you convert to PDF, the document is fixed in LibreOffice's layout and never goes through Word at all.
Can I convert an ODT file I downloaded from Google Docs?
Yes, you can upload the ODT file directly. If the document is still in Google Docs, you can also get a PDF straight away with “File → Download → PDF Document (.pdf)”; if all you have is the ODT file, use this page.
Can I convert ODS or ODP files too?
This page is for text documents (.odt). You can convert ODS spreadsheets with the Excel to PDF tool and ODP presentations with the PowerPoint to PDF tool; both accept these formats.
Will Turkish characters get garbled?
No. Because ODT stores text as Unicode, letters such as ç, ğ, ı, İ and ş carry over exactly. If a custom font that isn't on the server was used, the letters stay correct; only the font is replaced with a similar one.
Can I convert a password-protected ODT document?
No. Documents saved with a password can't be read. Open the document in LibreOffice, save it again without a password and then upload it again.
Can I convert ODT to PDF on my phone?
Yes. The tool runs in the browser on Android and iPhone; you can pick the ODT file from the Files app or from an email attachment and upload it. You don't need to install an office app on your phone.
Is it free, and is my document stored?
The tool is free and works without an account; guests can use it 10 times in 24 hours. Your uploaded document is deleted as soon as the conversion finishes; the PDF is kept only so you can download it and is deleted automatically within about 10 minutes.
