For PDFs that hit a 2 MB limit
Application forms and upload fields often cap the size of each file, and 2 MB is one of the most common limits. A multi-page document scanned with a phone, a report full of photos or a PDF that combines several documents goes over it easily. On this page you state the limit and the tool works out how much compression is needed.
The tool shrinks the photos and scans in your document only as much as necessary: it tries high quality first, steps down if the file doesn't fit and picks the sharpest version that stays under 2 MB. Because 2 MB is a roomier limit than 1 MB, most documents fit with less reduction and stay sharper. Text is not turned into images; it stays selectable and searchable.
“2 MB” is counted as 2,000,000 bytes, so your file stays under the limit whether a system counts 2 MB as 2,000,000 or 2,097,152 bytes. If your PDF is already under 2 MB, it is left untouched.

How to get a PDF under 2 MB in 3 steps
Upload your PDF: Drag your file into the area above or click to select it (up to 25 MB).
Check the limit: 2 MB is preselected under “File size limit”; if needed, pick 1 MB, 5 MB or enter another limit with “Custom”, then click “Compress PDF”.
Download: The screen shows the new size and whether it fits the limit. For large scans the tool makes several attempts, so processing can take up to about a minute.
03
Where does a 2 MB limit come up?
Multi-page documents: Uploading a scanned diploma, transcript, contract or report of several pages as a single file.
Merged PDFs: Fitting documents you combined with Merge PDF into a form's file limit.
Application and registration forms: Uploading documents to university, job and other portals that accept 2 MB per file.
Email attachments: Bringing photo-heavy reports down to a size the recipient can download quickly.
04
Quality, limits and what to know
The sharpest version is chosen: The tool tries high quality first and shrinks only as much as needed; a document that easily fits under 2 MB isn't blurred for nothing.
Text is preserved: Pages are not turned into images. Text, links, bookmarks, form fields and the OCR text layer of scanned documents are kept as they are.
72 DPI minimum: To keep scanned text readable, images are never reduced below 72 DPI. That is why high-resolution scans with many pages don't always fit under 2 MB; the tool tells you clearly when this happens.
If it doesn't fit: Remove unnecessary pages with the Delete PDF Pages tool, or split the document into parts with Split PDF and upload them separately.
Size limit: Up to 25 MB per upload. Files are deleted from the server automatically after about 10 minutes.
05
Privacy and automatic deletion
Your files are sent to our server over an encrypted HTTPS connection. The original file you upload is deleted as soon as processing finishes. The result file is kept only briefly so you can download it: an automatic clean-up job runs every minute and permanently deletes files older than 10 minutes. We therefore recommend downloading your result as soon as it is ready.
The download link only works for the user or browser session that started the job, and your files are never shared with other users. Our job log stores only details such as the file name, size and type of operation, never the file itself.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is compressing a PDF to under 2 MB free?
Yes. The tool is free and works without an account. Guests can use this tool 10 times in 24 hours; a free account lets you process more files.
Will the compressed file definitely be under 2 MB?
When the tool finds a result that fits the limit, the file is under 2,000,000 bytes; this holds for systems that count 2 MB as 2,000,000 bytes and for those that count it as 2,097,152 bytes. If it can't fit, it clearly shows the smallest size it could reach.
Why didn't my PDF fit under 2 MB?
In high-resolution scans with many pages, images are never reduced below 72 DPI so they stay readable. In that case, delete unnecessary pages or split the document and upload it as several files. Large text-only PDFs can also shrink only so much.
My merged PDF is over 2 MB. What can I do?
Combine your documents and photos into one PDF with Merge PDF first, then bring it under 2 MB here. The tool shrinks the photos and scans on every page; pages of plain text take little space anyway. If it still doesn't fit, split the document into as many files as the form allows.
Can I choose 1 MB, 5 MB or another limit?
Yes. Under “File size limit” you can pick 200 KB, 500 KB, 1 MB, 5 MB or 10 MB, or choose “Custom” and enter any limit between 50 and 20,000 KB – for example 1500 for a form that allows “1.5 MB at most”.
Can I use it on my phone?
Yes. The tool runs in your browser; on Android or iPhone you can select the PDF and download the compressed file straight to your phone.
Are my files safe?
Files are uploaded over HTTPS; the original PDF is deleted when processing finishes and the compressed file is removed from the server automatically within about 10 minutes.
