Why does my WhatsApp profile picture get cut off?

WhatsApp saves your profile picture as a square and shows it as a circle in the chat list. When you choose a portrait or landscape photo, the app asks you to select a square area; the rest of the photo and the corners of the square are hidden.

That's why group photos, long logos or images with a business name get cut off. When you fit a photo without cropping, the whole photo is placed in the square and the gaps are filled with a blurred background or a solid colour.

This page opens with the WhatsApp profile size (640 × 640 pixels) and shows the circle in the preview: the corners outside the circle won't show on your profile. Your photo is processed in your browser and isn't sent to a server.

Fit a profile picture in 3 steps

Choose the photo: Choose the image you want as your profile picture (JPG, PNG, WEBP).
Position it for the circle: The circle in the preview shows the area visible on your profile. Drag and zoom the photo; make the background blurred, a solid colour, white or black.
Download and set it: Press “Fit” and download; then change your profile picture in WhatsApp's Settings. Since the image is square, you won't need to crop it again.

Size, circle and privacy

Size: The output is a 640 × 640 pixel square; sharp enough for a profile picture and light.
Circle guide: The circle in the preview is only a guide and isn't drawn into the file; the file stays square. Only the inside of the circle shows on the profile.
Margin: For images with a logo or text, increase the “Margin” so that everything stays inside the circle.
Choosing a background: A blurred background works best for photos of people; for logos, the logo's own background colour (one of the suggested colours) gives the cleanest result.
Privacy: Your photo isn't uploaded; the resulting file contains no location or camera data (EXIF).

Privacy and automatic deletion

This tool does not send your file to our server: all processing happens in your browser, on your device. The page is served with a security policy (Content-Security-Policy) that technically prevents the file's contents from being sent anywhere; no analytics or advertising scripts run on this page.

The result file is also created on your device and only you download it. It is cleared from the browser's memory when you close the tab or choose “New file”. Our server keeps no file name or content record of this processing.
